The Sangre de Cristo Mountains are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. They are located in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico in the United States. A dying monk of two centuries ago looked out his window towards the mountains one morning and exclaimed “Sangre de Christo!” Which means blood of Christ. The name stuck and is the name of these mountains today in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. Perhaps it was a morning like this.
